The output is too small to be useful for a hose faucet. It could be used to cut and cap off the pipe inside the house while you investigate replacing or repairing the faucet. It sounds like not too bad a problem at present, so you have time to figure out an approach. How would I use this exactly or would it be useful for my situation? I'd like to install an actual shutoff valve though at same time I replace the anti siphon sill cock. I also have zero plumbing experience so any tips recommended.

They are perfectly fine if you a) install them properly and b) install them once . Where you get trouble is reusing them, you can damage the ring. But slip it in firmly once and they are just fine. It's not leaking/gushing on inside I think because of the stem bottom assembly. There's no shutoff valve to the outside faucet so would need to turn off water to whole house.

Sounds like he did not properly prep the pipe and damaged the O-ring. I use sharkbite all the time and I've never had a failure. They are rated for 25 years as is Pex pipe, etc. This is a shut-off valve like those found under the sink.

Your vote will help the community find the best deals. I'm not a plumber but have experience on my own home. I'm guessing you might have to replace the whole thing to the pipe. Could just be a part at big box hardware and some strength. A crescent wrench adjusted to just barely over the outside diameter of the pipe will disengage the sharkbite lock without needing to buy a special tool.
